The Centro Cultural Prof. Élio Martins began its regular cultural activity in January 2004. Since then, it has kept up a impressive cultural dynamism having promoted more that 40 plays, with many of the greatest names of the Portuguese theatre scene: Raúl Solnado, Camilo de Oliveira, José Raposo, José Pedro Gomes, António Feio, Sofias Alves, Fernanda Serrano, Maria Rueff, Lídia Franco, Octávio de Matos, Natalina José, Fernando Mendes, Helena Isabel, Maria João Abreu, São José Correia and Ana Bola are some of more than one hundred actors who have treaded this stage.
With regard to music, José Cid, Quinta do Bill, José Perdigão, Mico da Câmara Pereira, Luís Portugal, Banda Sinfónica da Polícia de Segurança Pública, Orquestra Ligeira do Exército and Paulo Bragança, are also some of the names who have performed at the Élio Martins Cultural Center.
This Center has already hosted some play openings, which shows the consideration that producers, stage managers and actors have for it and the recognition it enjoys for the work it carries out. The plays "Raparigas", "Oh Zé põe-te em pé", "Super Silva", "Trio Armando e Armandinho? opened here, and helped turn Oliveiro do Bairro into an important theatrical venue in Portugal.
