Palácio do Marquês de Cascais

Ançã, Cantanhede

This 17th-century building, near the Pillory, used to belong to D. Álvaro Pires de Castro, 1st Marquis of Cascais and Lord of Ançã. He lived in this residence during the seven last years of his life and died on the 11th July 1812.

Specific characteristics

The main facade, overlooking Terreiro do Paço, displays magnificent apron windows, made from the stone of this region, a characteristic of popular architecture of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Remark: This is a private property and cannot be visited


The central block of the building irests on three strong rusticated stone arches. Over the central arch, facing Terreiro do Paço, you can see the coat of arms of the Castro family.
