Penedo da Saudade

Sé Nova, Coimbra

It is a rocky promontory, that is now a landscaped park and its name comes from tradition. Legend has it that D. Pedro used to visit that place often, at that time known as Pedra dos Ventos, to o weep for the loss of his beloved, Inês.

In the 20th century, during academic festivities and course reunions, it became customary to place stone plaques with poems in recesses of the park, especially in the corner called ?course room?. Along the park boulevards, there are busts of emblematic poets of Portuguese culture, among them António Nobre and Eça de Queirós who had strong ties with the city of Coimbra.
