Radiolândia - Radio Museum

Radiolândia – Museu do Rádio (Radio Museum) was founded in Bustos, Oliveira do Bairro, and is the only Portuguese museum dedicated exclusively to radio. Opened in 2017, Radiolândia – Museu do Rádio is located next to the former primary school in the village of Bustos.

The museum arose from the municipality's desire to create a space to house and display a rich and vast collection of heritage items, serving as the basis for a venue entirely dedicated to radio, designed to serve the community and promote culture and education among all who visit it.

This museum is based on the rich private collection of Manuel Silva, a native of Bustos, which brings together some of the rarest and most important radios of the 20th century, in a vast collection that also includes many other devices from various sources and different donors, constituting an absolutely unique and internationally recognized collection.

The museum inherited the name Radiolândia, the name of the old radio shop owned by Manuel Silva, perpetuating the memory of a place that is part of the history of the municipality of Oliveira do Bairro, which contributed so much to the development of Bustos and which is now coming back to life.

Radiolândia - Radio Museum is a space considered extremely important for cultural promotion and essential for the preservation and enhancement of local heritage and history. In addition to a modern exhibition area, it includes a museum reserve area that can be visited and several technical areas.

In 2023, Radiolândia - Radio Museum, together with the Bairrada Ethnomusic Museum, was invited to become a founding member of Rede Euterpe, a forum of music and sound museums and collections promoted and coordinated by the National Music Museum.

The two facilities that make up the Oliveira do Bairro Museum Network are part of a list of 18 other public and private organizations that hold sound and music collections.

In 2025, it will join the Portuguese Museum Network, following an accreditation process.
