Presentation

The Levadas das Azenhas do Boco Trail (PR4 – Vagos) runs along the levadas (water channels) of the village of Boco, along a narrow dirt track known as a barachão, covering 4 km in a circular route passing by various points of interest, notably the watermills and mills found here.

Discover the levadas of the village of Boco and the many watermills that have harnessed the power of water since ancient times. Along a route of narrow paths of unparalleled beauty, you can discover the natural wealth of this territory. As you walk along these paths, take the opportunity to discover the natural heritage and stories of the watermills you will encounter along the way. This route can be started at the Chapel of Boco or at the Boco Picnic Park. Regardless of where you start, the route explores a whole range of flora and fauna, where you can find native species such as alders, ash trees, laurels, and oaks, as well as some examples of birdlife that occur here, such as the goshawk, the hawk, the gray nightjar, the red heron, the booted eagle, and the little tern. The southern area explores the most forested part of this region and the Boco River valley, also connecting to Vagos via the PR3 “Percurso Natura - Rio Boco” nature trail. This trail also has a small variant that allows visitors to see the Levada Sul, shortening the distance of the main trail and creating different visiting options.
