Pedro dos Leitões Restaurant

Álvaro Pedro (Pedro dos Leitões) was born on March 6, 1903, in Alpalhão, municipality of Anadia. At the age of 17, he left to Brazil where he worked as a head of a wagon-restaurant, on a train that made the connection between Brazil and Argentina.

He returned to Portugal, continued in his business, working in several hotels where he perfected his training.

In 1943, he acquired his first establishment, which operated as a grocery store and a tavern, where he sold suckling pig sandwiches to the few motorists who, at the time, circulated on the EN1.

In 1949, the restaurant "Pedro dos Leitões" (the first restaurant in the world to sell roasted "Leitão à Bairrada") was inaugurated, in the same place where it is located today. In 1982, he formed a partnership with his nephew Carlos Alberto Castela Simões, and the restaurant took on the name "Sociedade Hoteleira Pedro dos Leitões Lda".

Álvaro Pedro died on April 12, 1987, at the age of 84, leaving the continuity of his profession to his nephew Carlos Alberto who, in 1996, offered partnership to his children, Sandra, Pedro and Filipe, who, together with their father, form the current management.
